Once the capital of the province, Niagara-on-the-Lake has often been referred to as the loveliest town in Ontario. The Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake is located in the northeast corner of the Regional Municipality of Niagara and near where the Niagara River meets Lake Ontario in the Niagara Region of southern Ontario.
In 1792 the village was incorporated as the Town of Newark, then renamed niagara in 1798. During the war of 1812,the town was destroyed by american forces and the british rebuilt late. Niagara-on-the-Lake was formed officially on January 1, 1970.
today, notl has retained its 19th century charm and teems with historical plaques, many national and provincial, reflecting its significance in the establishment of many of the province's institutions.
In fact, it is said that to understand the history of Niagara-on-the-Lake is to understand the history of early Ontario.

the Clock Tower, which was erected as a memorial to the soldiers who lost their lives in the First World War and provides the focal point of the main street.




On the southeast corner is the Prince of Wales Hotel, which was built in 1880.



The Court House, which was built in 1847 on the site of the Government House (1792). It has one of the oldest town bells in Canada, which has rung continuously on the hour since March 27, 1839. Not used for judicial purposes since 1862 when the county seat was moved to St. Catharines, the Court house was the original home of the Shaw Festival and is still used as a venue for plays.





gazebo, overlooking Lake Ontario and Old Fort Niagara, which is Originally built as a movie set for a Hollywood production, is standing today where hundreds of couples have pledged their love to each other.





Over 3.5 million people visit Niagara-on-the-Lake each year.






while you're visiting the town, you can feel the 19th century charm everywhere. The shop, the restaurant....









the town is still under siege, but by hordes of friendly tourists shooting cameras instead of muskets.




besides historical sites,19th century buildings, people can enjoy the award-winning landscaped parks and gardens, so do the animal.
